TOPICS IN FACTOR ANALYSIS I. OBTAINING SQUARED MULTIPLE CORRELATIONS FROM A CORRELATION MATRIX WHICH MAY BE SINGULAR. FACTOR MATRIX DETERMINATION TO MINIMIZE WEIGHTED SQUARED RESIDUALS. RELATIONS OF FACTOR SCORE ESTIMATES TO THEIR USE,

Abstract

Three topics in factor analysis are covered: (a) obtaining squared multiple correlations for use as communality estimates with emphasis on singular correlation matrices, (b) a minimum weighted residual method of factor analysis, and (c) external properties of factor score estimates which are important in many uses of these estimates.
