INVESTIGATIONS IN STELLAR DYNAMICS.

Abstract

The report concerns aspects of the equilibrium and dynamics of self-gravitating stellar systems. Considerable progress has been made in constructing equilibrium configurations of highly flattened, rapidly rotating galaxies. A formal third integral of the motion has been constructed for the orbit of a star in a nearly spherical stellar system. A preliminary version of a theory of non-linear density waves in galaxies has been formulated. An investigation of moving pairs among the A-type stars in the solar neighborhood has been performed.
