RADIOSONDE AND REFRACTIVE INDEX DATA: DATA DERIVED FROM ARTILLERY METRO STATION STUDY. VOLUME 9.
Abstract
Data presented in the report is a compilation of upper air data from the surface to seventy millibars collected in January and February 1965 from twelve temporary rawinsonde stations located in southeastern Arizona in support of a ballistic wind study made by the Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory, US Army Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The area covered by the study was one hundred miles long and sixty miles wide. Twelve Rawin Sets, AN/GMD-ls were deployed. Five of the sites were operated by members of US Army Met Teams, five by US Air Weather Service personnel, and two by US Weather Bureau personnel under provision of a cross service order. The sites were chosen to provide a complete description of the wind field during cross-mountain and parallel-to-mountain situations. The first wind elevation for any sounding was 4,000 feet msl. The network was more dense in the vicinity of mountains but sufficient AN/GMD-ls were placed in outlying areas to provide adequate coverage. (Author)
