CHELATED BISCARBORANE TRANSITION METAL DERIVATIVES FORMED THROUGH CARBON-METAL sigma-BONDS.

Abstract

Biscarborane ((1-(1'-1',2'-B10C2H11)-1,2-B10C2H11)) reacts with two mole-equivalents of n-butyllithium in ethyl ether to form 2,2'-dilithiobiscarborane. The mole-equivalents of dilithiobiscarborane react with transition metal halides to form a series of unusually stable anionic chelated transition metal biscarborane derivatives containing metal-carbon sigma-bonds. The preparation, characterization, reactions and proposed structures and bonding of these complexes are discussed. (Author)
