NONLINEAR AND SPECIAL-PURPOSE UNITS FOR AN ANALOG COMPUTER COMPLEX,

Abstract

An analog computing system is developed. For simulating nonlinear dynamic systems, the following units are needed: a function multiplier, a universal nonlinear unit of single-variable functions, and a special switchable-structure unit. The function multiplier is designed with two operational amplifiers with varistor-type squarers; this unit can generate given relationships, and given functions; maximum multiplication error, 0.5 percent, division error, 5 percent, in multiplying 100-v ac by 100-v dc signals, phase distortion appears at 500 Hz. The universe nonlinear unit consists of diodes and resistors and has two output amplifiers; by reversing reference and diode voltages, various characteristics are obtained; temperature stability is achieved through thermostatic control. A special switchable-structure unit is planned; it will include backlash, coordinate restriction, dead zone, squarer, sine-cosine converter, relay characteristic, and other nonlinear schemes mounted on separate switchable plates.
