KINETICS OF ATMOSPHERIC CONSTITUENTS.
Abstract
The report summaries research directed to obtaining fundamental reaction rate and transport data of interest to the stratosphere, mesosphere and the ionosphere of the earth. To this end particular attention was directed towards the reactions involving reactants and products containing appreciable quantities of internal energy. A flowing afterglow system was constructed and used to study rates of ion-molecule reactions. The method developed in our laboratory to measure diffusion coefficients of atomic species was used to obtain values for H-atoms in a number of gases. (Author)
