GENERALIZED LOCAL ADJUNCTION AND REPLACEMENT IN ADJUNCT LANGUAGES.

Abstract

String adjunct grammars using two basic operations, adjunction and replacement, are studied as formal languages. Adjunction corresponds linguistically to the endocentric formation of constituents; replacement is a form of substitution similar to a phrase structure rewrite rule. These operations are studied separately and jointly. (Author)
