THE THEORY OF THE CONCENTRATION DEPENDENCE OF THE TRANSLATIONAL FRICTION COEFFICIENT,
Abstract
The concentration dependence of the translational friction coefficient f of a solution of macromolecules was analyzed. It was shown that it is impossible to construct a theory of concentration dependence f on the basis of the Stokes solution for a uniform unbounded medium. It is necessary to take into consideration deviations of the real velocity of the solvent in the presence of dissolved particles from the Stokes solution. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved for motion of a particle in a closed sphere. It was shown that the obtained solution satisfies the real picture of motion of macromolecules in the solution, since strict calculation of the total velocity of the entrainment of solvent by moving particles is equal to the velocity of the solvent, calculated simply from the continuity equation. The proposed theory permits us to describe the existing experimental material for solutions of macromolecules. (Author)
