THE COLLISIONAL DE-EXCITATION OF ARGON AT VARIOUS PRESSURES.

Abstract

Research grade argon at pressures from 1 to 800 torr was excited by 1.5 MeV protons from a Van De Graaff accelerator. The intensities of the 7635.1 A and 8115.3 A spectral lines were analyzed for their dependance on pressure. Theoretical equations were derived for the intensity as a function of pressure which agreed quite well with the experimental data. The collisional de-excitation rate, K(i), for the 7635 A transition was found. (Author)
