BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF COMPLEMENT.

Abstract

The attached report details studies concerned with the function of complement in the living animal. The bactericidal activity of complement for various species for Salmonella typhosa was studied and compared with hemolytic activity. The effect of dietary factors and the experimental diabetic state were found not to influence complement levels in animals. Unsuccessful attempts were made to locate the cellular and organ sources of complement synthesis in the animal body through the use of fluorescent antibody labeling. Investigations were begun to determine the relative efficiency of complement in killing bacteria of IGG and IGM antibodies. (Author)
