COMPRESSIBLE COROTATION OF A MODEL MAGNETOSPHERE,

Abstract

Calculated for a simplified model of the distorted magnetosphere, the electric field induced by the earth's rotation exhibits an azimuthal asymetry somewhat similar to that of the magnetic field. Analytical tracing of the resultant field-line motion in the equatorial plane indicates that the magnetosphere does not rotate rigidly with the earth, but that the time (one day) required for a complete rotation is the same for all field lines.
