COMPARISON OF NEAR AND FAR INFRARED SPECTRAL DATA FOR THE WATER MOLECULE,

Abstract

Differences of the pure rotational energy levels of the water molecule obtained from high resolution near infrared data (i.e., the combination relations) are compared with appropriate sums or differences of pure rotational transitions obtained from high resolution far infrared data. The comparison indicates no inconsistency between the near and far infrared data. A sample calculation by least squares method demonstrates that significant improvements in the determination of the pure rotational energy levels of the water molecule are possible. (Author)
