AN EXTENDED CONCEPT OF 'MODEL'

Abstract

Operations research and systems analysis are now accepted, even extolled, as aids to management in commerce, industry, and defense. They are used not only to increase efficiency in routine operations but also to determine policies and actions, often at the highest levels. They have, however, not had, as yet, a corresponding acceptance for the solution of social and public problems. One handicap may be a bias toward too narrow a concept of model.
