PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF Fe2P.

Abstract

The system Fe(2-delta)P, with the Fe2P structure, was studied where delta varies from 0 to 10. The bulk magnetic properties of these phases have been investigated and correlated with deviations in stoichiometry. Fe2P and Fe(1.91)P have Curie temperatures of 225K and 223K respectively; the observed magnetic moment of these materials varied from 1.28mu(B)/Fe(1.91)P to 1.10mu(B)/Fe atom for Fe2P. The electrical resistivity of single crystal Fe(1.91)P was measured from 80K to 360K. Metallic behavior was observed throughout this temperature range. A break in the resistivity curve occurred at 220K and coincides with the abrupt change in the magnetization curve. (Author)
