TRANSPIRATION COOLING EXPERIMENTS NEAR THE STAGNATION LINE OF A CYLINDER IN CROSS FLOW.

Abstract

Tests were made with a cylindrical model transpiration cooled over a region plus or minus 15 deg. from the stagnation line. Air was used as the coolant. The model was tested at a nominal Mach number of 7.0. Wall temperatures and heat-transfer rates were in good agreement with predicted values. The effect of the external pressure distribution on the local coolant flow rate and wall temperature is discussed. (Author)
