BLAST RESISTANT FANS FOR HARDENED COOLING TOWERS.

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the nuclear blast resistant characteristics of vaneaxial and centrifugal type fans used on cooling towers. Rugged commercial fans, namely, a 27-inch, 24-inch, and 21-inch vaneaxial, and a 15-inch centrifugal, were selected for the study. A preliminary analysis followed by an extensive experimental program using the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory (NCEL) 12-inch, compressed air driven shock tube was carried out. (Author)
