CONSTITUTIVE EQUATIONS FOR WESTERLY GRANITE AND CEDAR CITY TONALITE FOR A VARIETY OF LOADING CONDITIONS.

Abstract

The report describes experimental and analytical work performed on several rocks to determine stress-strain behavior and fracture strength under carefully controlled loading conditions. Constitutive relations for two of the rocks, Cedar City tonalite and Westerly granite, are presented which are valid for a variety of loading conditions including hydrostatic compression, uniaxial stress, uniaxial strain, a family of constant confining pressure tests and a family of proportional loading tests in which the ratio of the radial to axial stress was held constant during a test. Apparatus specially constructed for the test program is also described. (Author)
