FAMILY SEPARATION IN THE ARMY: A STUDY OF THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND THE CARETAKING RESOURCES USED BY CAREER ARMY FAMILIES UNDERGOING MILITARY SEPARATION.

Abstract

In America, during any one year, there are thousands of military families that have been temporarily separated due to the absence of the soldier. These families potentially face serious problems of readjustment to living in the civilian community as well as to the absence of the father and husband. The study focused on the problem-solving experiences of fifty-five career army families in which the husbands and fathers were absent due to their military assignments overseas. It was addressed primarily to learning the nature of the resources that were used by these families when they encountered problems in maintaining vital on-going family functions while living in civilian communities within the San Francisco Bay area.
