THE PHOTOCHEMICAL DECOMPOSITION OF 1,3,5,7-TETRANITRO-1, 3,5,7-TETRAZACYCLOOCTANE (HMX).

Abstract

This investigation was concerned with the photochemical decomposition of 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazacyclooctane (HMX). Products from ultraviolet irradiation of both solid-state HMX and HMX-acetone solutions were obtained and identified. On the basis of observed product variability with irradiation environment a new mechanism for the photochemical decomposition of HMX was postulated. (Author)
