INTERFEROMETRIC MEASUREMENTS OF THE FAR-INFRARED REFRACTIVE INDEX OF SODIUM FLUORIDE AT LOW TEMPERATURES

Abstract

The refractive index of sodium fluoride at cryogenic temperatures has been determined between 30 and 180/cm from channel spectra obtained by Fourier spectroscopy. Fitting the measured refractive index to a Lorentz oscillator model we find a low frequency dielectric constant of 4.70 and a damping parameter varying from 3.3/cm at 80K to less than 0.025/cm at 10K.
