THE RESPONSE OF A SPARK CHAMBER TO INCIDENT NEUTRAL PARTICLES.

Abstract

The study was carried out to furnish a suitable detector efficiency or response function for the analysis of neutral cosmic particles. A detector response function has been obtained using a digital computer program to simulate the action of the detector. The simulation incorporates the Monte Carlo technique of using random numbers to approximate distributions of physical parameters. The program is flexible. The simulation presently deals with the response to the muon but can easily be expanded to treat as much of the interaction as necessary for further analysis. Seventy-one actual events are available for study and the artificial data derived from the simulation in its present form have correlated in a positive fashion. (Author)
