THE SYNTHESIS OF NEW ANTIMALARIALS.

Abstract

The appearance of drug-resistant strains of malaria in Vietnam has led to an intensified search for new antimalarials, coordinated by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. As a part of this program, the following derivatives of carbazole and the necessary intermediates have been synthesized: (C12H8N)C(=R')R where R= CH3, CH2CH3, C6H5; and R'=NOH, NNHC(=NH)NH2, NNHC(=S)NH2.
