NEARFIELD AND FARFIELD INVESTIGATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF PLANAR ARRAYS OF PISTON-TYPE SOUND SOURCES.

Abstract

Nearfield and farfield measurements were performed on scale model-linear- and hexagonal underwater sound arrays of acoustically small elements (ka approximately 1). The measurements included the head velocities of the elements, surface pressure and far-field pressure. The linear superposition of the acoustical interaction effects was studied and proved to be valid. A simple method to predict the final velocities of the interacting elements was established by using the modified-transfer-coefficient concept. (Author)
