THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE RESISTANT POLYMERS

Abstract

The thermal response of several test materials was characterized by isothermaland dynamic thermogravimetric analysis. Pyrolysis gas analysis, infrared spectra analysis and elemental analysis were employed also to formulate a description of the thermal-degradation reaction. A new, systematic approach to the determination from dynamic TGA data of kinetic parameters describing pyrolysis was developed. Samples of linear para-polyphenylene, polybenzimidazole, polyimide, phenylated polyquinoxaline and phenolic resins were tested.
