THE FORMATION OF NOVEL COBALT-CARBORANE COMPLEXES INVOLVING LIGANDS PRODUCED BY REDUCTION OF 1,6-C2B6H8.

Abstract

The carborane, 1,6-C2B6H8, was reduced with sodium amalgam or sodium naphthalide which produced the apparent C2B6H8(-2) ion. Treatment of this ion with CoCl2 produced the ((C2B6H8)2Co(III))(-) ion. Treatment of a 1:5 mixture of C2B6H8(-2) and C5H5(-) ions with CoCl2 produced the red C2B6H8CoC5H5 and the green C2B6H8Co2(C5H5)2 mixed complexes. (Author)
