ON THE POWER FLOW IN PLASMA-FILLED WAVEGUIDES.

Abstract

The power flow of two types of cyclotron modes propagating in a waveguide filled with a cold collisionless axially magnetized plasma is studied as a function of the location of the point of operation on the Brillouin (omega-beta) diagram. Dynamic analysis is used throughout. Partition of the total power flow corresponding to E, H, and EH power is examined and compared with results obtained by the quasi-static approximation in the domain of its presumed validity. A comparison is made of suitably normalized total power flow as a function of the propagation constant for various representative examples of mode types. The inadequacy of the quasi-static approximation for the analysis of the power flow for dynamic cases and properties of cyclotron and plasma guide modes are discussed. (Author)
