INTRODUCTION TO SPACE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE: OVERVIEW OF SPL.
Abstract
The report presents a historical overview of the evolution of the Space Programming Language (SPL) whose development was sponsored by the Space and Missile Systems Organization (SAMSO) of the Air Force and was performed by System Development Corporation. The events range from the Spaceborne Software Systems Study, begun in September 1965, to the current development of SPL compilers and an SPL Implementation Tool (SPLIT). The intent of SPLIT is to enhance the cost effective development of SPL compilers, reducing both production time and costs. The significant SPL milestones are presented in tabular form as well as graphically, correlating the milestones with the appropriate contract activity. (Author)
