LIFE ESTIMATION AND RENEWAL THEORY.

Abstract

It is well-known that the moments of the life distribution in a renewal process can be estimated from those of the forward or backward recurrence times. These results are extended, in this paper, to the estimation of moments of a whole matrix of life distributions occurring in a Markov Renewal Process. This estimation procedure is likely to be of use in spare parts distribution centers in the Army or Navy, where replacement is not always done with new components but with repaired items or items of different makes also.
