DIRECT, DURABLE CAPTURE OF 1 TO 8 MeV SOLAR ALPHA PARTICLES INTO GEOMAGNETICALLY TRAPPED ORBITS,
Abstract
The report studies the hypothesis that the major, rapid increases in the intensity of durably trapped 1-8 MeV alpha particles are caused by the direct capture of solar particles from the interplanetary medium but that such capture is possible only during geomagnetic storms of appropriate, but as yet undefined, characteristics.
