ANALYSIS OF THE BEM-I REACTORS: EVALUATION OF REACTOR THEORY FOR BERYLLIUM SYSTEMS,

Abstract

A series of critical assemblies designated BEM-I was tested in a flexible critical experiment facility to evaluate the analytical methods available for treating beryllium systems containing lumped voids. The complexities of the (n, 2n) reaction in beryllium and of the enhanced leakage due to cell voids were found to be inadequately treated by conventional methods, and, consequently, only a 'best recipe' approach could be employed as an analytical tool.
