USE OF BIOGRAPHICAL AND INTERVIEW INFORMATION IN PREDICTING NAVAL ACADEMY DISENROLLMENT.

Abstract

Given the attrition rate of nearly 30 per cent for each entering U. S. Naval Academy class, an attrition prediction instrument for use in selection could represent considerable monetary savings. The Naval Academy Personal History Booklet (PHB) has shown some previous validity as a predictor of Academy disenrollment. The present research evaluated a new method of coding and scoring the PHB and compared its validity with that of the psychiatric screening interview and Strong Vocational Interest Blank. (Author)
