DESIGNING AN OPTIMUM THIN BUMPER ON ARMOR PLATES.

Abstract

Considering the normal impact of a flat- headed object, it is shown that varying impedance mismatch one can maximize a characteristic response of a thin bumper on armor plates. The criterion is that the best impedance ratio of a thin bumper to a backing plate is 0.29. This indicates that the combinations such as duralumin-steel and ceramics-steel are very close to the optimum. (Author-PL)
