ELASTIC STABILITY OF CYLINDRICAL SHELLS UNDER EXTERNAL PRESSURE.

Abstract

Numerical determination of the nonlinear, large displacement behavior of a complete circular cylindrical thin shell subjected to a uniform radial pressure is presented. By including second order nonlinear terms, the total potential energy of the shell system is minimized by a variation-difference method from which the load-deformation relation of the shell is obtained. The results are compared with existing linear solutions. (Author)
