PASSIVE SYSTEMS, DISSIPATIVE OPERATORS, AND THE THEORY OF DISTRIBUTIONS.

Abstract

The report describes research involving passive evolution equations where, for example, it is shown that passitivity, positivity of the resolvent, and maximal dissipativeness are all equivalent. Further, some classical theorems of Hille-Yosida and Phillips concerning contraction semi-groups are strengthened, where results obtained tie together some of the classical theory of semi-groups with that of passive systems.
