ELASTIC-PLASTIC ANALYSIS OF OPEN-END, TRANSVERSELY-ISOTROPIC TUBES UNDER INTERNAL PRESSURE. PART I: DETERMINATION OF THE STRESSES.

Abstract

The report contains an elastic-plastic analysis of a circular, open-end, unrestricted tube subjected to internal pressure of sufficient magnitude to cause plastic deformation. The axial stress is assumed to vanish identically throughout the tube. The material is homogeneous but transversely isotropic about the radius vector in both elastic and plastic regions. In the plastic portion, Hill's orthotropic plasticity theory is used. Initial yielding for this problem will still start at the inner face. Expressions for the location of elastic-plastic interface and for the stress distribution are obtained, and the results are shown graphically. (Author)
