A SURVEY OF DIGITAL WAVEFORM ENCODING METHODS FOR SPEECH.

Abstract

Digital encoding methods for speech are surveyed with emphasis placed on system descriptions rather than on mathematical analyses. The objective is to give an overall view of the topic, stressing pulse code modulation (PCM) and differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) with delta modulation treated as a special case of the latter.
