THE EFFECT OF SUBLETHAL CONCENTRATIONS OF DURSBAN (TRADEMARK) ON IMMATURE CULEX PIPIENS QUINQUEFASCIATUS SAY.

Abstract

Preliminary field observations at Edgewood Arsenal suggested that sublethal concentrations of Dursban caused stunting and extended the developmental time of larvae of Aedes canadensis (Theobald). Since this mosquito species breeds in temporary pools, control could be achieved if sublethal concentrations of Dursban extended the larval developmental time beyond the effective life of the pool. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the effects of sublethal concentrations of Dursban on the developmental time of larvae of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus Say. Results of the tests indicated that sublethal concentrations of Dursban did not cause stunting or extend the larval developmental time for C. pipiens quinoquefasciatus. (Author)
