THE STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF THE QUANTIZATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION ON SIGNAL WAVESHAPES AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS.

Abstract

The problem of deriving a description for the detection of multimode electromagnetic radiation was studied. The analysis of A. M. and F. M. systems using the results of the multimode work were investigated. Quantum mechanical effects upon shot noise, error rates in binary communication systems, radar systems, and the channel capacities of information systems were investigated. In many of the preceeding cases, both photocount detection and real field detection schemes were considered. A considerable attempt was made to obtain a general solution for the photocount statistics of Gaussian light. (Author)
