Abstract

A new approach to magnetohydrodynamic flow stability is outlined. The concept of space-time and gauge symmetries of the flow fields are utilized in developing a nonlinear global theory of stability. New experimental data is presented which indicates that the stable structures predicted by the theory are actually produced in the laboratory. (Author)
