ELASTIC RESPONSE OF PRESTRAINED BODIES.

Abstract

The Report surveys the technique of superposing small deformations on large ones. The investigation is confined to elastic response, and explicit expressions for the incremental stress-strain relations are given for isotropy and transverse isotropy. The following problems are discussed: (1) small extensions of cylindrical tubes subjected to finite initial inflation, (2) material stability of undistorted states of a Mooney-Rivlin material, (3) internal buckling of finitely prestrained bodies, (4) formulation of incremental stress boundary conditions, (5) strain gradient theories.
