MONAURAL PERCEPTION OF PHASE DIFFERENCE.

Abstract

The report describes some experiments in which phase changes not accompanied by concomitant amplitude changes (envelope) are readily perceived monaurally -- a perception which has previously been very elusive. There appears to be wide individual differences, but even the poorer subjects perform well enough to leave no doubt that they can hear phase changes monaurally. Having derived a monaural phase function, the study investigates specific aspects of the stimulus that make the perception of phase difference possible. (Author)
