MODIFICATION OF FROST-HEAVING OF SOILS WITH ADDITIVES. INVESTIGATIONS 1953 THRU 1955,

Abstract

A 3-year search for additives to reduce the frost susceptibility of soil is described. Fifteen soils and about forty additives have been tested. A discussion of the theoretical considerations for the choice of additives is presented. The additives are divided into four groups: (1) void pluggers and cements, (2) aggregants, (3) dispersants, and (4) 'waterproofers' - according to their action in soil. (Author)
