OCEANOGRAPHY IN THE GULF OF MEXICO.

Abstract

The report gives a summary of oceanographic research in the Gulf of Mexico supported by the Office of Naval Research during the period 1 May 1961 - 15 December 1969. This research involved theoretical studies in ocean dynamics; currents in the Gulf of Mexico, Cayman Sea, western tropical Atlantic and eastern tropical Pacific; development of geostrophic eddies and associated turbulence phenomena; bio-environmental studies; geophysical research; geotechnical properties; chemistry and air-sea interaction.
