ESTIMATED PROBABILITIES OF PATH-CUMULATIVE RAIN INTENSITY FOR PATHS OF 10 AND 22 NAUTICAL MILES IN HIGH RAIN-RATE AREAS.

Abstract

Curves are presented which show number of minutes per year that the product, rain rate times distance, exceeds any particular value on a 10-nautical mile path and a 22-nautical mile path in southern Florida and in coastal Burma. The curves were derived from fairly reliable estimates of the number of minutes per year that given point-rainfall rates occur and a hypothetical model of the probability of path-cumulative rainfall for various point-rainfall rates. The results are applicable to calculations of rain attenuation of microwave signals in areas having large annual rainfall. This application is illustrated in an appendix. (Author)
