ECONOMIC IMPACT OF IMPLEMENTING ACOUSTICALLY TREATED NACELLE AND DUCT CONFIGURATIONS APPLICABLE TO LOW BYPASS TURBOFAN ENGINES.

Abstract

An analysis was made of the economic impact on U.S. airlines, of implementing a retro-fit of low bypass turbofan engined aircraft, with acoustically treated nacelles. The purpose of the analysis was to add to the store of technical and economic information already available to the FAA. Six aircraft were chosen to represent the low bypass turbofan aircraft fleet. Each aircraft was configured with four nacelle designs, set by acoustic criteria, and three acoustic materials were applied to each design. The resulting matrix of seventy-two design points was then analyzed to determine the change in performance and the development, manufacturing and installation costs for each design point. (Author)
