MICRO-STEP COMPARATOR.
Abstract
A comparator which can be used to measure steps of movement within the range 0.5-500 micrometers is described. A meter indicates the size of step and the sensitivity of the unit can be switched so that full scale deflections of the meter correspond to 10 micrometers, 100 micrometers and 500 micrometers. An electrical output is provided for use with external indicating and recording equipment. The measuring element is a piezo-electric ceramic strip mounted as a cantilever. A simple device can be used to reset the output to a chosen value at any time. (Author)
