A DIRECTIONAL WAVE BUOY FOR OBTAINING SEA SURFACE STATISTICS UP TO 15Hz.

Abstract

The new wave buoy has been developed to obtain sea surface statistics over a very wide frequency range. The required wide dynamic range is obtained by the use of two measuring systems. The buoy is constrained to ride with the long wavelength components and their amplitude is measured by a vertical accelerometer. An array of resistive probes is mounted on the buoy to delineate the shorter wavelength components. In this way, measurements have been obtained over the frequency range 0.1 to 15 Hz with an effective dynamic range of 80 dB. The directional properties of the shorter wavelength components are now being studied. (Author)
