STUDIES, RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATIONS OF THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF THIN FILMS OF METALS, SEMI-CONDUCTORS AND DIELECTRICS.
Abstract
A literature search was conducted to find what available information has been published on chromium. Little information exists and much of this is unreliable or inconsistent. Chromium films were vacuum deposited with an electron gun as an evaporation source. The pressures attained were 0.00001 torr while the deposition rate was approximately 100 angstroms per second. Films were deposited on glass or quartz substrates at substrate temperatures varying from 25C to 600C. Optical constants (the index of refraction and the extinction coefficient) were determined throughout the visible region by a polarimetric method. The results are discussed and recommendations are made for future studies. (Author)
