Abstract

The performances, knowledges, and skills required of the Infantry rifle squad leader to treat himself or his men and to supervise treatment and evacuation are covered in this paper. Skills and knowledges include the lifesaver steps; treating wounds requiring special first aid measures; such as chest, head, belly and jaw wounds and fractures; administration of morphine; treatment for common emergencies, such as snake bites, foreign objects in eye, ears, nose, and throat, blisters, unconsciousness, drowning, electric shock, minor cuts and burns; treatment for severe burns; administration of artificial respiration; administration of closed chest cardiac massage; and evacuation of wounded.
