Thickness Requirements for Unsurfaced Roads and Airfields; Bare Base Support.

Abstract

A method was developed for determining design thickness requirements for unsurfaced airfields. Tests were conducted on a total of 43 unsurfaced test items. These items had varying thicknesses and were trafficked under different loading conditions. CBR, water content, density, deflection, and deformation data were recorded throughout testing. The design expression relates thickness requirements to soil response in terms of applications of load, load magnitude and pressure, and strength of soil. (Author)
